Another of Deshler's pioneer mothers passed to her greater reward on Sunday afternoon when Mrs. Helen Muth died at her home a mile north of Deshler after a short illness of pneumonia.
Mrs. Muth had been with her daughter, Mrs. H. C. Powell, helping her care for Mr. Powell up to a week before her death and had gone home feeling badly at that time. Mrs. Muth lived alone and it was some little time before neighbors discovered that she was sick. A physician was called and it was found that she was suffering with double pneumonia and it was doubtful from the first if she would recover. Death came at 3:30 Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Helen Muth, daughter of Jacob and Jeanette Helzer was born near Tontogany on September 2, 1862 and died at her home near Deshler on Sunday afternoon, March 15, 1931 at the age of 68 years, 6 months, 12 days. She grew to young womanhood near the place of her birth and on April 18, 1886 she was united in marrige to Phillip Muth at Tontogany. To this union five children were born, four of whom have preceded their mother in death, one daughter, Mrs. H. C. Powell surviving.
Thirty three years ago the young couple moved to Henry County where they made their home since that time. Five years ago, Mrs. Muth was bereft of her husband who also died of pneumonia. She has always been a farm woman and besides Henry County had lived in Wood and Huron Counties.
Funeral services were held at the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in charge of Rev. A. J. Boomgarden. Burial was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
