Harry Miller and family were visiting his parents west of Muncie, Indiana, when the house caught fire. His daughter was burned to death and he was badly burned trying to rescue her.

Frank Stephens and his wife were riding by and he stopped the carriage to help. The horse bolted and Mrs. Stephens died as a result.
