Robert J. Mangas, 65, of rural Holgate, died Sept. 10 in the Lutheran Home at Napoleon after a long illness. He was born Oct. 26, 1921 in Marion Township to Gilbert and Clara (Xenz) Mangas,and his mother survives. He married Julia Sonnenberg on Feb. 11, 1944 and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Tom of rural Holgate, james R. of Grand Rapids, and John M. of Sylvania; three daughters, Susan Porter of Terrace Park, Judy Damman of rural Hamler, and Linda Brelsford of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; one sister, Mary Murphy of Defiance; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. Mangas was a member of Hope Lutheran Church near Hamler, where services were held with the Rev. Norman Norden officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon was in charge of arrangements.
