James R. Weber, 66, of 605 N. Ash, Deshler, died July 1 in Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green. Mr. Weber was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Toledo to Joseph A. and Amelia (Loew) Weber. He married Dorothy Adams on August 24, 1946 and she survives. Mr. Weber was the Patrick Henry School District's first guidance counselor, retiring in 1979. He had previously taught math in the former Deshler School System and coached various sports in both systems. He had also worked for the Private Industry Council of Defiance and on a part-time basis for 13 years he held various positions with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Mr. Weber received a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in guidance and counseling, both from the University of Toledo. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1942-46, and a member of Deshler American Legion Post 316. He was also a member and elder at Deshler Presbyterian Church, where he was church treasurer and a choir member. He was a member and one-term president of the Deshler Lions Club. He had also served on the board of directors for Four-County Joint Vocational School. Also surviving are his sons; Jeffrey, Dale, Richard and Robert all of Deshler; daughters, Mrs. Allen (Janet) Rutter, of Lambertville, Mich., and Mrs. Juan (Carol) Escalante, of Deshler; 16 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. William (Lois) Case of Swanton. Funeral services were held July 5 in the Deshler Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James D. Shotwell officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
