A Deshler man was accidentally electrocuted and another man seriously injured last Friday while they were installing a telephone wire support cable on Pemberville Rd. near Luckey. The Wood County Sheriff's Department found Hadley L. Bean, Jr. 40, of Deshler, face down next to the cable, and Allen D. Lather, 24 of Toledo, also near the cable with a burn on his left arm. Bean was dead on arrival at St. Charles Hospital in Toledo. Lather was transferred from St. Charles Hospital to Toledo Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Friday evening. A third man, Kevin Foulk, 23, of Toledo was uninjured. The accident occurred at about 10:@0 a.m. According to the sheriff's department, Bean apparently was pulling the slack out of the cable on the ground when it came in contact with a high-powered, 7,200 volt Toledo Edison line. The men were employed by Cable Kraft Co., Pandora and were installing cable for United Telephone Co. Wood County Coroner, Dr. Roger Peatt, ruled Bean's death accidental electrocution. Funeral arrangements were pending at Paden Funeral Home, North Baltimore.
