James "Don" Leonard, 58, of Hamler died early Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Williams County Community Hospital, Bryan. Born in Leipsic Oct. 7, 1933, he was the son of James and Ann (Cutlip) Leonard. On Nov. 27, 1952, he married Mary Conn, and she survives. He had been the owner and operator of Leonard's Hair Stylin' in Hamler for 32 years and was a 1959 graduate of the Andrew Barber College. A U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Hamler, where he had formerly service on its council, the Hamler American Legion, New Bavarian V.F.W. and Napoleon AMVETS. He was also a lifetime member of the Patrick Henry Athletic Boosters and a former secretary for Hamler Summerfest. Also surviving are two sons, Scott and Timothy both of Hamler; a daughter, Theresa Hammon of Defiance; a brother, Thornton of Napoleon; a sister, Velva Hatcher of Napoleon; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kent in 1954 and a brother, David in 1989. Services were Dec. 4 in St. Stephens Lutheran Church, hamler, Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Interment was at the St. Stephen-Hope Lutheran Cemetery, where military gravesite rites were accorded by members of Hamler American Legion Post #262 and New Bavaria V.F.W. Post #8847. Arrangements were handled by the Walker Mortuary.
