Charles Kern, Jr., 83, of Hammondsburg Road, Custar, died Oct. 18 in his home. He was born March 16, 1908 in Deshler to Charles and Bessie Rebecca (Jackson) Kern, Sr. He married Agnes M. Schuster on May 15, 1929, and she survives. Mr. Kern retired from farming in 1988. Also surviving are his sons, Dale of McComb, and Edwin C. of Portage; daughter Mrs. Avery (Mary Lou) Evinger of Deshler; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren, and brothers; Richard of Deshler, Edward of Bowling Green, Carl of Leipsic, Eugene of Orange, Calif.; and Don of Weston. Mr. Kern was preceded in death by a son Kenneth and a sister Vivian. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 in Snyder-Bloor Funeral Home, Deshler with the Rev. Thomas Hoover officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
