George Dishong, 77, who made his home for years in a little shack east of Deshler, died in his bed in the shack about Friday.
Dr. B. L. Johnson, county coroner, reported that the aged man, who led almost a hermitlike existence, had died of exposure during the protracted cold wave.
Relatives said he had occupied the plain little shack, which stands on the north side of Route 18 about a half mile east of town, since before the first World War. He walked to town periodically, but had not been seen lately, and when a nephew, Floyd Dishong, stopped at the cabin Wednesday morning to investigate, the body was found on the cot, with the dog alone in the cabin.
Mr. Dishong was born near Weston, on January 17, 1865, the son of John M. and Anna Dishong. He was married to Isabel Delph in 1895, and had one child, which died in infancy. Two brothers, Uriah and Elias Dishong, both of Hoytville, survive.
Services were held this morning (Thursday) at the Rader Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Rex of the United Brethren church officiating. Burial was in the McComb cemetery.
