Former long-time village Mayor George Heinrichs, 81, died early Sunday, June 23 at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green, Prior to being mayor from 1952 to 1972, Heinrichs was a village councilman for 10 years. Born Oct. 18, 1909, near Hamler, he was the son of William and Anna (Schwiebert) Heinrichs. On May 25, 1937 he married Marjorie Ritz and she survives. A retired auto mechanic, he worked for 42 years at Bichan Chevrolet in Hamler then went on to Bill Jones Garage in Leipsic, retiring in 1978. He was a recipient of the Community Service Award from the Hamler American Legion. Heinrichs was also a member and deacon of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Hamler. Services were held at 10 a.m Wednesday, June 26 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, interim pastor Rev. Ronald Claussen officiated. Interment was in the Marion Township Cemetery near Hamler. Arrangements were handled by Walker Mortuary.
