Arthur J. Haas, 90 of rural Deshler, died April 24 at Oak Grove Quality Care Nursing Home in Deshler. He had been in failing health for more than 3 years. He was born in Wood County on June 8, 1896 to Julius and Gertrude (Hemminger) Haas. He married Gertrude Pratt on Dec. 11, 1917 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Wilbur of Custar and Charles (Bud) of Westhope; two daughters, Thelma Clausen of Westhope and Ruth Farrell of Custar; two daughters, Thelma Clausen of Westhope and Ruth Farrell of Custar; two sisters, Erma Koch of Haskins and Gladys Vermilya of North Baltimore; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A retired farmer, Haas served many years on the former Richfield Township School Board and Deshler Farmers Elevator board. He was the oldest member of Westhope Bible Church. Services were held Monday at Westhope Bible Church with the Rev. William Wicks officiating. Burial was at Richfield Township Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.
