Mike Hill, 66, resident of Arcola, Indiana, was fatally injured in a highway automobile accident near Fort Wayne, Wednesday night of last week. Mr. Hill and son John had attended a session of the Order of Red Men at Fort Wayne. The elder Mr. Hill had been instrumental in having his son reinstated and the two men attended the lodge session together, going in the son's car. John's automobile did not run properly and so he decided to leave it in a garage and patronize the Rent-A-Car garage. After they got into the country toward Arcola, they ran out of gasoline. They stopped at a farm house and were able to secure enough to get them to Arcola. The men were filling the vacuum tank. The son on one side of the car and the father was standing on the running board next to the traffic. A car sped past, hitting the elder Mr. Hill, pitching him forward, head foremost into the engine, the hood being open.
The injured man was immediately taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne, but his injuries proved to be fatal and he passed away on Friday.
Mike Hill will be remembered by many of the older residents of Deshler, for he was born here, a son of John Hill. He left this community when a young man. He was a section forman on the Nickel Plate and was to be retired on pension the coming fall. His son John is a section foreman on the same road at Fort Wayne.
Relatives from this section attending the funeral services, conducted from the late home in Arcola on Monday were: Mrs. Levi Young, Mrs. Golda Bright, Mrs. Clyde Tussing, William, Nelson, and Dennis Hill. The deceased is survived by the widow and three married children.
