William Frederick Orthwein, 101, formerly of 155 Blaine St., Hamler, died Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the Oak Grove Quality Care Nursing Home, Deshler. Mr. Orthwein was born Sept. 28, 1880, in Hamler to Frederick and Mary (German) Orthwein. He married Anna Chloie Downard on Dec. 22, 1915 and she survives. Mr. Orthwein was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the former Hamler and Holgate Methodist churches. Also surviving are his daughters, Gertrude B. Tawney of Merritt Island, Fla., and Lucille I. Lowery, of Perrysburg; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Rudolph of Hamler. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Snyder-Bloor Funeral Home, Deshler with the Rev. Tom Ketzler, pastor of Holgate United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Marion Township Cemetery, Hamler.
