Edward Zoschke, Carroll Township farmer, drowned at 2 a.m. Sunday in the Portage River four miles east of Oak Harbor when the boat in which he and his farm helper, Alexander Theodore, upset as Zoschke tried to pull the stake to which the boat was tied. Theodore escaped by swimming to shore under the weight of a sheepskin coat and hip boats. Shedding his clothes Theodore swam to aid Zoschke, who did not again come to the surface. Henry Fioro recovered the body four hours later with the aid of grappling hooks brought from the Marblehead Coast Guard Station by Sheriff Quison.
