Funeral services for William H. Goeke, 91, of rural Deshler, were held Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. Roger Marlow officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bloor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Godeke died July 18 at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green. He was born Nov. 29, 1895 in Henry County to Henry and Barbara (Binger) Godeke, Sr. He married Emma Hoops on March 31, 1931 and she died Feb. 24, 1984. Surviving are a son, Wilbur of Deshler; two daughter, Mrs. Robert (Alma) Orthwein of Hamler, and Lilliam Eberle of Holgate; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman of Deshler; four sisters, Ann Harmann of California, Marie Ressler of Toledo, Sophie Godeke of Toledo and Martha Alt of Leipsic. Godeke was a retired farmer. He was the oldest living member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler, where he was a former elder, deacon, trustee and Sunday School deacon.
