Ato F. Gerschutz, 65, of Holgate died June 28 in his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1921 in Putnam County to Nicholas John and Eleanore Josephine (Okuley) Gerschutz. He married Rita Robinson on May 13, 1945 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Edward James of Pensacola, Fla., and Thomas Gerard of Bowling Green; one daughter, Doris Yaichner of Long Branch, N.J.; three grandchildren; four brothers, Aloysious Gerschutz of Defiance, Francis Gerschutz of Deshler, Nicholas Gerschutz of Oakwood, and Robert Okuley of Bavaria; three sisters, Cecilia Wagner of Deshler, Lilliam Schwab of Holgate and Mary Rose Battershell of Hicksville. A retired foreman from General Motors in Defiance, Gerschutz was a member of the U. S. Coast Guard from 1943-45, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holgate, a member of the Holgate American Legion Post 340, a member of the New Bavaria VFW Post 8847 and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Holgate. Services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holgate with Father Francisco Caballero officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate was in charge of arrangements.
