Three young women on their way to attend a Junior-Senior reception were killed on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad at the edge of town by a Toledo bound special train. It is the belief of officials of the railroad that the vision of the young women, who were in a closed car, was obscured by a light rain. They were killed instantly. The dead: Helen Scheid, Blanch Hickle and Leona C. Hofner. The bodies were hurled from the machine, which was reduced to splinters and twisted metal. One body was carried 75 rods down the right of way and thrown into a ditch while the body of one of the other victims was carried 50 rods from the crossing before it was hurled free of the locomotive. All were dead when found by members of the train crew.
