[Excerpt] John Ellis, after beating his wife over the head with the butt of a horse whip until she was unconscious, thinking her dead, went upstairs and blew the top of his head with a shotgun. Jealousy is said to have prompted the deed. Mrs. Ellis is in critical condition with hopes of recovery.
