A funeral Mass for Herman J. Drummer, 90, of State Rt. 281 in Custar, was held at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Schmelzer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. A rosary and scripture service was held at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home in Deshler. Drummer died Dec. 24 at his daughter's home in Rudolph. He had been in failing health the past six months. He was born May 9, 1897, in Custar to Joseph and Cunegundis (Koch) Drummer. He married Emma Louy on OCt. 15, 1924 and she died Sept. 12, 1975. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard M. (Marie) Wensink of Rudolph and Julia Drummer of Custar; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a brother, Francis of Wauseon. Drummer retired in 1961 after 42 years as owner and operator of the Custar Garage. He was a former mayor of Custar and had serviced as a member of the board of directors of Custar State Bank for 35 years. Drummer was a charter member of American Legion Post 305, Custar, and a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus. He originated and served as chief of the Custar Volunteer Fire Department. He was a World War I Army veteran. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and served on the church council for many years.
