Sevilla Darnell, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Woodring) Glick, was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, January 28, 1848; departed this life, January 25, 1929; aged 80 years, 11 months and 27 days.
Her parents moved to Shelby County, Ohio, when she was a young child, and took up their residence in Jackson township, near Monterey, she being the eldest of eight children. She was baptized in infancy and in early childhood united with the M. E. church at Pleasant Hill at Jackson Center. She was united in marriage to J. F. H. Darnell, February 3, 1870. She was a loving companion and a friend to everybody; always ready to help those in need.
She was an invalid for about four years, friends caring for her in her home for almost a year. Since about three years ago, she has been cared for in the Henry County Home, and everything was done for her that could be done to make her comfortable.
Her last illness resulted from an attack of influenza. From the first she declined rapidly, indicating that the end was near, and on last Friday she passed into the great beyond. In all her suffering, she never complained, and in the last few weeks, she would sing many of the old songs, which she loved to sing in days gone by.
She often spoke of the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Riggs, superintendent and matron of the Home, and of her nurse, Sadie Moore, who tenderly cared for her during her illness.
Sister Darnell was held in highest esteem by all who knew her; she being of kindly disposition, always meeting her friends with a smile.
She united with the M. E. church of Deshler, February 25, 1917; always attending services when her health permitted.
She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, four brothers and two sisters -- Levi, John and Deliah of Jackson Center, Ohio; Enon of St. Paris, Ohio; Edward of Lima and Lydia Brown of Wood county, besides many other relatives living in Ohio and other states. One brother and sister preceded her in death.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Darnell was opened to a young girl, who grew to womanhood under their care, filled a place in their hearts and who learned to love them as many loved their real parents. She is Mrs. Mary Dodd of Toledo.
Services were conducted from the Deshler Methodist Episcopal church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C. W. Baltzell. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
