John M. Dishong, pioneer resident of this vicinity, aged 98 years, passed away at him home three miles northeast of Deshler at about 9:30 Tuesday morning, death being due to senility. 'Uncle Johnny' Dishong, as he was familiarly known over a wide territory, was one of those early pioneer type of men who believed and practiced the brotherhood of man. He was a friend not alone to his neighbors, but to any who he felt he could help. His good deeds, his friendly attitude toward all, his honest methods of dealing with his fellowmen, will cause his many manly qualities to linger long in the minds of all who knew him.
He was born in Maryland, August 6, 1830, and went to his reward after a long life of usefulness, December 11, 1928; aged 98 years, 4 months and 5 days. Surviving are three sons, Uriah and Elias, who reside near Hoytville, and George of Deshler. There is also a foster daughter, who mourns the loss of one who was ever kind and indulgent.
Services will be conducted from the Church of the Brethren, three miles east of Deshler, this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:00 o'clock, in charge of the pastor. The obituary will appear next week.

Frederick Dishong was one of a family of five children, three boys and two girls. He united in marriage with Elizabeth Mellott; to this union were born three sons, John M., Jacob and Uriah.
John M. Dishong, subject of this sketch, was born close to the Mason and Dixon line in Maryland, August 6, 1830, and departed this life at his home in Jackson township, Wood county, Ohio, December 11, 1928; aged 98 years, 4 months and 5 days.
Anna Dishon was the daughter of Adam Dishon and Catherine Mellott, who united in marriage with John M. Dishong about the year 1852, and departed this life, September 6, 1905, at the age of 75 years.
To this union were born five children, two daughters dying in infancy and three sons, Uriah, Elias and George, who survive their father.
There are 10 living grandchildren; five granddaughters and five grandsons; twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-grandson deceased; also a foster daughter, who came to their home at the age of about 12 years; all these, with a host of other relatives and friends mourn their loss.
