Pedro R. Cortez, 82, of Hoytville, died June 2 in his home. Born in Fife, Texas, on March 1, 1909, he was the son of Juan V. and Maria (Reza) Cortez. On Jan. 5, 1936, he married Simona S. Sanchez, and she died Jan. 9, 1969. A former employee of Cast Metals in Deshler, Mr. Cortez retired in 1966. He was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, North Baltimore. Surviving are his sons, Alonso of McComb; Antonio and Felix, both of Hoytville; Arnulfo of North Baltimore and Mario of Deshler; daughters, Maria Caseres of Immokalee, Fla.; Manuela Alva of Cygnet; Rosalinda Torrez of Napoleon; Esparanza Dickes and Jesusita Siber, both of McComb; Violanda Martinez of Rudolph, Oh., and Margarita Blanco, Consuelo Ward, and Christina Herrera, all of Hoytville; two brothers, two sisters; 41 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were a son, Arturo; daughters, Alicia and Josephine Cortez; two brothers and three sisters. Services were held on June 6 in our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, North Baltimore, Father Jerome Nowakowski celebrant. Interment in the New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore.
