John J. Colwell, 82, of Deshler, died Tuesday, July 31. 2001, in his residence.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1918, in Deshler to Richard D. and Carrie M. (Hutter) Colwell.
Mr. Colwell was a 1935 graduate of Deshler High School and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1940 with a degree in Journalism.
After completing college, Mr. Colwell opened a professional photography studio in Deshler until World War II. After serving in the Army in the war, he was a self-employed printer and owner of Colwell's Printing, retiring from there in the early 1980s.
He was also a former member of the Patrick Henry School District Public Library Board and a member of the Deshler Camera Club.
He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 68 in Deshler for 20 years. He participated in area Motorcycle Poker Runs for many years and was a former judge of science projects at the local high school. He enjoyed hobbies of photography, astronomy and electronics.
Surviving are his brother, Robert (Blanche), of Pemberville, and sister, Catherine Mitchell, of Deshler.
At the familyβs request there were no services. Rodenberger Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donorβs choice.
