Bernice M. Van Zandt, 72, of 326 W. Main St., Deshler, died Feb. 11 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. She was born July 25, 1914 in New Bavaria to John and Elva (Casteel) Howe. She married John Van Zandt on Feb. 18, 1936, and he died in 1980. She is survived by a son, Larry of Deshler, a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Beverly) Yungmann of Deshler; four grandchildren; a brother, John Howe of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Frances) Orthwein of Toledo. Mrs. Van Zandt was a homemaker, a member of the Deshler United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Deshler Garden Club and Aladdin Club. Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Bloor Funeral Home in Deshler with the Rev. Delmar Young officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
