Charles W. Butler, 82, Route 1, Deshler, a retired farmer, died in Blanchard Valley Hospital at 10:45 a.m. last Friday after a three-week illness.
Mr. Butler was a former president of the Deshler Elevator board, former president of the Bartlow Township School Board, a former school teacher and a member of the Oakdale EUB Church for 60 years.
He was a member of the IOOF Lodge at Deshler for 60 years and was a past noble grand, a member and past master of Sycamore Lodge No. 520, Deshler, a member of the Masonic Bodies at Findlay and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo. He was a member of the OES and a former Bartlow Township trustee.
Born in Pleasant Township, Hancock County, Nov. 8, 1883, he was a son of Isaac and Louisa (Dunn) Butler. He married Blanche Van Scoyoc July 14, 1906, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Dr. Charles W. Butler, Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Mrs. Hollis (Clara) Richard, Mrs. Harry (Grace) Boulis and Mrs. Richard (Louise) Gordon, Deshler; Mrs. Ethel Felkner, Toledo and Mrs. Don (Bernice) Ahrns, Milford, Ind.; a half brother, Harry L. Butler, Defiance and a half sister, Mrs. George McMaster, Deshler.
There are 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, two sisters and a half sister preceded him in death.
Services were held in the Dubbs Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday, the Rev. David Cole and the Rev. James C. Hough officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
