Melvin M. Brown, 64, took his own life in his home, 234 S. Washington St., about 8 a. m. Monday.
Dr. Wilson Stough, Henry County coroner, said Mr. Brown shot himself in the head with a .22 caliber pistol. He termed the death suicide and said Mr. Brown had been despondent over his health.
Born in Deshler, Feb. 6, 1897, he was a son of David and Hester (Camomile) Brown. He married Madge Dilsaver Jan. 15, 1920, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Ness, Ida, Mich.; a brother, Wilder Brown, Jonesboro, Tenn.; sisters Mrs. Charles Triggs, Neapolis, Mrs. Mabel Sharer, Findlay and Mrs. Virgie Stiles, Deshler.
Mr. Brown was a World War II veteran.
Services will be held in the Dubbs Funeral Home at 2 p. m. Thursday, the Rev. Aaron Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The American Legion will conduct military rites at the grave.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p. m. Tuesday.
