Emma A Schortgen, 71, Hamler, died at her home of an apparent heart attack. She was born april 19, 1909 in Hamler to Anthony and Amelia (Breece) Dunner. She married Florin Schortgen on Nov. 29, 1930, and he survives. She is also survived by five sons, Jerry and James both of Hamler; Charles of Leipsic; Kenneth of Ottawa; and donald of Marlboro, N.J.; two daughters, Mrs. John (Janet) Schroeder of Leipsic; and Mrs. Melvin (Kathleen) Barlage of Ottawa; two sisters, Mrs. John Zelma) Hoke of Crestline; and Mrs. V. J. (Edna) Meyers of Toledo; 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Schortgen was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hamler. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Rosary Guild and the Wide Awake Club. In 1972, she retired from her position as a fourth grade teacher at Deshler Elementary School after 19 years of service. Funeral services will be at the church, the Rev. Richard Notter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary service will be held at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.
