John W. Burke, 83, of Hamler, died Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Twin Rivers Nursing Home, Defiance. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born January 1, 1902, in Marion Township, to James F. and Cora (Fackler) Burke. On January 19, 1921, he married Myrtle Zook, and she preceded him in death on April 11, 1979.
Mr. Burke was a maintenance foreman for B & O Railroad for 30 years. He was a member of Holgate Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are one son, Howard, of Defiance; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m. at Dubbs-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler. The Reverend Raymond Birtcher will officiate, and interment will be in Marion Township Cemetery, Hamler.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday, all day Sunday, and until 1 p.m. Monday. The Masons will hold a memorial service Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
