Another good and highly respected citizen of Deshler has passed to the world beyond during the past week in the person of Mr. William Buck, who died at his home in this place Monday forenoon, Nov. 6, 1911, aged 79 years, 3 months and 5 days.
On Dec. 12th, 1861, he was married to Miss Hannah Hartz. of Wood county, and to this union three children, two boys and a daughter, were born, all of whom, together with the widow, survive him.
The deceased located with his parents near Milton Center in 1832, where he lived until 1897, when he moved to Deshler and, together with his son, R. W. Buck, engaged in the clothing business. This partnership existed until two or three years ago, when his health gave way. He sold his interest in the store to Mr. Scott House and he retired to private life.
'Uncle Billy,' as he was familiarly called by all who knew him, was as fine an old gentleman as ever trod the streets of Deshler. He was always had a cheering word for all with whom he came in contact, was strictly honest and upright in all his dealings and bore the highest confidence of this entire community. He joined the Disciple church at Milton Center in his early youth and lived true to the faith until the end.
The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon conducted by his personal friend and pastor, Rev. Cook, of Weston, and his remains were taken to Milton township cemetery for interment.
Out of respect for the deceased and his estimable family and showing the esteem in which he was held by our citizens, every business house in town, including saloons, restaurants, etc., were all closed during the funeral hour.
The family desire to express their thanks to the neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness, to the business men for the beautiful floral offering and their kindness in observing the funeral hour; to the male quartet for the songs rendered and to assure them that all these tokens of respect are greatly appreciated by every member of the family.
