WE ARE PUBLISHING ….

    News of Our Men and Women in Uniform taken from The Deshler Flag 1941-1949. Over three hundred pages of letters from service men and women and lists of draftees/inductees from Henry County and the area. The letters and articles are from, and about, service personnel from the Deshler, Hamler, Custar, Belmore, Westhope, Hoytville, and McClure areas. Others included are from Malinta, New Bavaria, North Baltimore, and Deweyville. This will be sold as a two-volume set, with all servicemen/ women’s names indexed. The cost of these books is $20.00 per set, plus $3.00 postage and handling. We are already on our second printing. The books may be picked up locally at Phyllis LaRue’s or Lucille VanScoyoc’s.

    WE ACCEPT queries relating to Henry County from our members and are happy to publish them at no cost. Our corresponding secretary does limited research without charge except for postage and copying costs, but please be thoughtful and include an SASE or a donation to cover these charges.

CHANGE OF SCENE

    Our books will no longer be for sale at the Deshler Edwin Wood Memorial Library. If you are in town and want to pick up one or more, they will be available at the homes of Lucille VanScoyoc and Phyllis LaRue.

    Phyllis LaRue is program chairman for next year. Please sent her any suggestions for programs for meetings for 1996. She would really appreciate it. We’ve had a lot of good programs this year. Give her a hint what you would be interested in for the future.

ELECTIONS

    Election of officers for 1996 will be held at our regular meeting October 16. We could not get a complete roster for 1995 and would welcome some help with the organization and administration duties of the group for next year. Many of the officers have more than one job. Could YOU be the someone who could help? Contact Kathy at 274-7590, or any of the other officers. Come to the meeting and express an interest.

SURNAMES

    Each year we print a list of the surnames our members are researching in the January-February issue of the newsletter. Last year for the first time we limited this to 16 names. If members did not send us their 16 names of most interest, I took the first 16 alphabetically from their previous list. It would be more beneficial to us all if each member sent the names they wish to appear in the newsletter. Please do so this Fall when you return your membership form. That form will be in the next newsletter, so begin sorting names now.

    Another of Henry county’s few remaining Civil War veterans was called to his long rest and taps were sounded for him the last time when James W. Ingle, 81, passed away at the home of his niece, Mrs. Tom Pelt, near the Damascus Bridge on Monday of this week.
