TIPS

In reading newsletters from other Ohio counties we have noted that many of them will not answer a request for information if a SASE has not been enclosed with the request.

The Henry County Genealogical Society has not, as yet, made that definite stipulation. However, we do request that you send an SASE with any letter that you send to us for information. It would also be appreciated if you would make your request for research brief and concise. A detailed letter is very confusing and many times leaves a doubt about what is really wanted. Always list full names of those you are researching. We realize that these names are familiar to you but can be very confusing when you only give a given name and perhaps list more than one surname.

If you have written somewhere for information and have not received an answer, it may very well be because you did not send a SASE.

From The Henry County SIGNAL, 17 July 1879

Mr. Milt REEDER, of Edinburg, PA, has been visiting his brothers, G. H. and J. J. Reeder, of this place, the past week.
Mr. S. W. LONG, formerly of Napoleon, but now of Van Wert, OH, was in town for a few days during the past week visiting old friends.
Mrs. A. M. GIDLEY and daughter Myrta of Damascus Twp., visited in Napoleon last week, the guests of Mrs. C. H. Gidley.
J. P. STOUT, formerly of Napoleon and for some time an employee of this office, after an absence of two years, has returned to visit old friends and scenes.
Mr. Frank STOUT, formerly in the drug business in this place, was elected a Justice of the Peace in Defiance township at the late election, on the Republican ticket. He has received his commission and opened an office and commenced business. His many friends here congratulate him on his new honors.
We are pleased to say that notwithstanding strong inducements offered the talented artist, S. J. CHAFIN to remove to Toledo, he has determined to remain with us. . .call on him for holiday photos & etc.
Mr. J. S. KANE, of Napoleon, Michigan, who learned telegraphing at this place, has been confined to his room at Councilman BROWN’S for the past four weeks with a severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism. Dr. A. E. H. MAERKER is attending the young man and hopes to have him at the electric table before a great while, where he is a favorite with the boys of his profession.
When the fast train from the west pulled in at the depot the other day, the bystanders thought the smokestack fell off the engine and was walking up the platform. A closer inspection showed such not to be the case. It was only a Bi-centennial plug hat, with Mr. Nick ROCHT on his wedding tour. Nick is well known here as is his bride, Miss Katie HEAD. The happy couple were married in Chicago on the 22nd. Nick has been fooling around harness for a long time, and has finally got himself into one for life.
