MEETINGS

November 21, 1994, Monday, 6:30 pm

Recognition dinner for new First Families of Henry County members. Ed Peper, of Napoleon, will speak on the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln.

SURNAMES

Each January we list the surnames our members are searching. Please submit your list to us by Dec. 15. You can send them directly to the address above. We are limiting each member to publishing their 16 Most Wanted surnames. This allows us to keep the newsletter within our mailing requirements. If you have been listing more names than that, I will have to choose which names to include for you and they may not be the ones you are most interested in tracing. Please help us out on this and send the names you want.

WE ARE PUBLISHING …

Obituaries from the Deshler Flag 1958-1964 (Vol. XIII) is now in print. Obituaries from the Deshler Flag 1965-1970 (Vol. XIV) and Obituaries from the Deshler Flag 1971-1975 (Vol. XV) will be finished by the first of December. The years 1976-1980 and 1981-1985 were previously published as Vols. III and IV. By the end of the year we will have Obits. 1986 -1988, (Vol. XVI) and Obits. 1989 – 1991 (Vol. XVII) ready. Shortly after the first of the year we will finish this series with Obits. 1992 – 1994 (Vol. XVIII). The cost of these books is $10.00 plus $2.00 postage and handling.

MANY thanks to Phyllis LaRue, who has compiled the books from the microfilm and newspapers.

ROBINS, ROCKWELL, KNAPP

FIRST FAMILIES OF HENRY COUNTY

William Klein of Saline, MI has proved the following ancestors:

William Spieth 1859 Gold
Anna Louise Spieth 1873 Gold
George Roos 1869 Gold
Charles Roos 1880 Silver

Mr. Klein will be honored at our November meeting. We hope he and many of our members can be there!

HELP!! We still do not have a recording secretary for 1995. Please let us know if you can attend most of the meetings and take notes for the minutes book. We usually have someone willing to fill in if the secretary cannot attend a meeting or two, so don’t let a lack of perfect attendance keep you from volunteering.

HENRY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Our members met at the Historical Society museum in Grelton for our October meeting. We were impressed by the displays, one of which was a red and white “friendship” quilt made about 1890-1893 and signed (in embroidery) by 100 Henry County men and women. We have decided to list the names in case any of you recognize an ancestor.

FROM THE HAMLER NEWS

19 July 1939 Tomorrow is an important day in our community, for it is the 93rd birthday of our oldest resident–Mrs. Susanne Guilliom. She came here with her family about 65 years ago, making the (sic) most of the journey on foot, from Seneca County. She is a true pioneer, and it is with pride that we claim her as one of the early settlers. Hamler was known as Belton or Belton City at the time the Guilliom family came here.
