Henry County Genealogical Society Newsletter

Volume 1, Number 2, January 1987

The Henry County Genealogical Society has elected the following officers for 1987:

President – Jane Shively
V. President – Ruth Keiffer
Recording Secretary – Mary Jo Cunningham
Treasurer – Lucille Van Scoyoc
Corresponding Secretary – Jo Ann Kitchen
Reporter – Clara Ellen Courtney

Those who attended the November meeting were informed that we now have over 15 members who are also OGS (Ohio Genealogical Society) members, which makes us eligible to become a state chapter. They voted to apply to OGS for this status.

The November program was to be a panel discussion of available material at the Henry County Court House. Due to illness, one of the panel members could not attend and the program was given by Jana Broglin.

In the event of bad weather this winter, WNDH FM 103 will list meeting cancellations. The NEXT MEETING will be held at the Edwin Wood Memorial Library in Deshler on January 19, 1987.

We want to publish your five generation charts in our newsletter. They will also be used as resources for anyone doing research in the area. The charts must be TYPED with your name and address on them. They will become the property of the Henry County Genealogical Society and may be used in upcoming projects as needed unless you, as the submitter, notify us to the contrary.

An example of one possible project would be a published booklet of the charts which could be sold. The profits would go to the Henry Co. Gen. Soc. (which would. pay publishing and binding costs). It would be a method of raising funds for the Society to purchase other resource materials and make them available to the members. Several other counties have published five generation charts.

Queries are welcome. Some editing may be done due to space limitations. An explanation of abbreviations will be given in a future issue. Please send SURNAME LISTS, too.

We would also like our members to submit 3 X 5 Surname Cards, either printed or typed. This, too, is a research resource for our members and others working in this area. An example of a Surname Card is given below.
